50 Internal Segment List

Hi, it’s Jeff Arnold from 4Spot Marketing. We’re going over the 50.Internal – Segment List campaign using PlusThis. This is a great utility campaign that allows you to randomize some of your contacts. So if you wanted to run AB testing and you wanted to randomize the people that were in the testing group, you could run them through the segment list portion and it will randomize them. That way you aren’t trying to send…and you always have those people that want to act quickly and they’re very eager and they want to go through. You don’t want to put all of those people into one batch and then maybe have all the rest of the people that take action later go into a different batch because what’s going to happen is you’re going to get a skewed list if you do that.

With the segmentation tool you can randomize those people and randomly put them into one of the segments so you get a more homogenous group of people whenever you’re running them through your testing. So the way you can do this, there are going to be a number of features that you could utilize here, but all you’re going to do is enter somebody into the campaign, they’re going to press Start, we’re going to go into the segment list feature and then we are going to go through and identify them and trigger them with a tag. The tag that we’re going to put on them is pending segmentation. That tag is what’s going to drive what happens inside of PlusThis. So in the feature library we’re going to go and search for segment list. Click Add Feature. It’ll take you to this page, and you can determine as many segments as you want. We just did three and we said, “What tag do you want to apply to segment one?” Now we have segment A tag, which is going to be this tag, segment B, segment C. So we have those three tags listed here. You could add more segments if you want. If you want to make, you know, multiple groupings, you can do multiple groupings. It doesn’t matter.

Then it asks you how you want to divide your list. We have it listed as evenly so we’re going to get 33% in each one. If you wanted to more heavily skew one or the other, you could turn that off and right here, under a percentage, you could enter the percentage that you want. So if you wanted 50% to go into A, 25 in B, 25 in C, you can segment those and put those percentages there. We’re going to go ahead and do it so that it’s all even.

Then we’re going to run this against which contacts. So right now we have a list that says pick a tag. If you wanted to go through your entire database and assign randomly every single person into some sort of a segmentation, you could do that. You could turn this off and go after the entire database and run it so that the entire database gets segmented. We’re only going to do it for the people that we’re running through the segmentation process. That way we can just make sure that only our leads, for example, are being segmented. So we’re going to run them through here. If we do it this way, what’s going to happen is we don’t have any scheduling turned on. So as soon as we have that tag applied that says pending segmentation, it’s going to randomly throw those people into a segmentation mark, one of the groupings here. So one of these groupings will automatically be applied.

If we turn on the scheduler, so here’s the scheduler, we can choose how often we want this scheduler to run. So if we have lots of leads coming into our system and we wanted to go through and say, “You know what? Every day what we want to do is everybody who has this tag, we want to run through the scheduler.” Or, if we don’t have a lot of leads coming in or if segmenting this market is not super imperative to our timing we could do it every week or we could do it every month. But basically anybody who has entered this campaign and has that pending segmentation tag is going to go through here on the scheduled date and time.

This is set up for monthly on the 3rd of the month at 2:30 P.M. Eastern Time is when this is going to run. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to copy the name of the campaign here, we’re going to copy that, paste it into the feature name. That way we know where this PlusThis feature runs inside of our Infusionsoft campaign and we’re going to click Save. And now it just says that here’s what happens. You know, the details of when this segmentation is going to take place comes up here and shows us what’s going on. This is not something that we need to trigger. Again most of the PlusThis campaigns are triggered with an HTTP URL where we send over that HTTP post and that causes the action. In this case we’re setting up the segment list process and it is now scheduled so it will run automatically all the time to anybody who has that pending segmentation tag.

So nothing we need to trigger here. By applying the tag in here it actually queues that person up for segmentation. When they’re segmented we remove the pending segmentation and we apply segment A as a profile tag and then we stop the campaign. You can then, inside of here, dictate what happens with that segmentation. So you could then trigger them to start off into a new campaign that has one particular message or has a different message. Whatever you want to do. You can drive whatever automation you want once they’re segmented here. All we’re doing is then stopping the campaign so that people can get pulled back out of that campaign in case you ever wanted to run them through there and re-segment them. So once this is ready, click Publish and your segment list campaign is ready to go.
